The Night I Learned What Real Sleep Feels Like

For 8 years, I built radar systems—mixed signal PCB design for defense, automotive, and commercial applications. Hardware, firmware, software, scripting. I loved solving hard problems. Debugging complex systems piece by piece, accounting for every variable.

I was also pushing hard. Starting side projects. Chasing financial freedom. I looked around at "successful" engineers: broken family lives, lost zeal, metabolic issues, overweight, melancholy. I didn't want that destiny. So I kept working harder to escape it.

But I was running out of steam. Not recovering. Prioritizing work over sleep, nutrition, exercise. Extremely stressed. My drive was fading. Ambition dulled. Motivation inconsistent. Training hard but barely building muscle. Classic signs I didn't recognize at the time.

As an engineer, I don't give up when 8 things don't work. I keep isolating, testing, analyzing. So I started doing functional labs—not the doctor labs that said "normal." I researched. Podcasts. Books. Always learning.

The results hit hard: severe magnesium deficiency, leaky gut, brain fog, low testosterone. All invisible on standard panels. Every symptom had a measurable cause. I implemented supplement protocols, targeted nutrition, lifestyle changes, functional medicine detox. Felt results in a few weeks. More at 8 weeks.

I didn't realize you're supposed to actually feel tired when you fall asleep. I was so used to feeling wired and tired, eventually passing out. But one night I laid in bed and felt my eyelids getting heavy. Felt my brain shut off. Felt my body releasing melatonin.

That night I felt so much relief as my body finally started to recover.

That balanced approach made me 10x more productive. Learning faster and better. More present with my family (3 kids). Better decisions. Drive and ambition restored. Building muscle again. More confident. Excited about life again.

How I debug metabolic dysfunction

1️⃣ Gather Comprehensive Data

Standard labs only catch disease. Functional labs (HTMA, OAT, metabolic panels) catch DYSFUNCTION. Most clients have 5-10 underlying issues conventional doctors never test for.

2️⃣ Identify Patterns

Systematic pattern recognition + 10 years debugging experience = connections doctors miss. Example: Elevated glucose + low magnesium + high cortisol + gut inflammation = insulin resistance ROOT CAUSE, not just "eat less sugar."

3️⃣ Trace Root Causes

Symptoms are outputs, not inputs. Fatigue isn't the problem—it's the OUTPUT of mitochondrial dysfunction. Fix the input (nutrient deficiency, toxin overload, gut permeability), the output (fatigue) resolves.

4️⃣ Implement Targeted Fixes
